The Club flourished through consistent development.

In 1979 and 1980, Taiwan Golf Club was ranked 44^th in “the top 50 golf courses in the world” by the world golf course selection committee, composed of renowned international golf players, course managers and journalists. In 1981, Taiwan Golf Club was again selected in the top 50 golf course in the world, ranking 45^th. From 1978 and 1981, due to Taiwan’s rapid economic growth and the society prospering and progressing, more and more foreign business people and tourists visited Taiwan. To fulfill their actual needs, the Club had plans to expanded to 27 holes during the term of the former chairperson, Wang Yong-zai. Today’s new four-story clubhouse was also renovated and put into service on May 24, 1981.

On October 31, 1986, some of the world’s best players, including Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Hale Irwin, Bernhard Langer and other top international players, were invited to the Chiang Kai-shek International Tournament, held at Taiwan Golf Club, for the first time. It was a gathering of the worlds most talented players and attracted much attention. In addition, since 1986, Taiwan Golf Club was assigned as the permanent host for the most prestigious golf tournament in Asia, the “Mercuries Taiwan Masters Invitational Golf Tournament.” Held for more than 31 years, it is the largest and oldest men’s golf tournament in Taiwan, as well as being the most representative international golf tournament in Asian golf.

Taiwan Golf Club is also important for the cultivation of golf players in Taiwan. It is responsible for the development of more than 100 players, many of whom are famous international players, including those entered into the Japanese Golf Hall of Fame, Chen Qing-shui, Chen Qing-po and Xu A-yu, as well as, amongst others, world-renowned players such as Xie Yong-yu, Lu Liang-huan, Xie Min-nan, Xu Xi-shan, Guo Ji-xiong, Xu Shen-san, He Ming-zhong, Chen Jian-zhong, Zhang Jin-xia, Wu Ming-yue, Huang Yue-fen, Chang Xi-jun, Cao Jian-deng, Lu Jian-shun, Chen Liang-xi, Xie Yu-shu, Xie Jin-sheng, Lu Wen-de, Wang De-chang, Ye Zhang-ting, Cai Shu-huang, Ye Wei-zhi, Lu Wei-zhi, Jiang Chen-yan, Lu Xiao-qing, Xie Li-ling, Yao Xuan-yu.

On November 26, 1989, the Club celebrated its 70^th anniversary. In 1991, former Taipei County Magistrate, You Qing, attempted to evict Taiwan Golf Club. In 1995, the expansion of No.9 Road in Tamsui Township was enforced, separating the new nine holes from the rest of the golf course and reducing the 27 holes of the Club to the 18 that are found today.

In April 1999, the Club and former Taipei County Magistrate, You Qing, reached a settlement which enabled the lease to be resumed. On October 30, 1999, to celebrate its 80^th anniversary, the Club renovated the interior of the clubhouse and published a “Special Issue of the 80^th Anniversary of Taiwan Golf Club.”
